Yes! Since the Central Area Masterplan was adopted the whole economic basis on which it was based has changed. There is now very little prospect of any large amounts of new capital being invested in Southend until growth returns to the economy, this has been estimated to be a five to ten year time frame. This is illustrated by the fact that work has ceased on the Ambassador Hotel and the Nirvana Apartments both prime seafront developments, the company developing Marine Plaza has been reported going into bankruptcy and it seems that the only way Southend united will get a new stadium is if Sainsbury's finance it.
