Why not go further, providing three 'Entertainment Squares' serviced by the retail shopping centres. An open sided glass canopy over 'Victoria Square' and a modern bandstand in the middle would enable street entertainment to flourish and provide additional customers the bars and restaurants in the area. If the Council were to provide more pedestrianisation in the surrounding streets and allow the bars and restaurants to erect canopies in the season as they do on the continent. This could become a vital eating and socialising area of the town.
The Council could also set up a 'University Square' in the centre, at the rear of the High Street using the derelict back gardens in the properties by the High Street and Whitegate Road.
A third 'Royal or Pier Square' at the top of Pier Hill which could be used for entertainment as it is at present and for 'Night Markets to coincide with the Saturday Night firework displays to extend the retail season of the top end of the High Street.
